Guide Dogs are looking for a confident, friendly person in the Milton Keynes area who is interested in helping out a blind or partially sighted person by providing sighted guiding on a weekly basis to allow them to improve their mobility.

They currently have a service user in this area looking to be matched in a partnership with a volunteer, as part of the My Guide program managed by Guide Dogs.

A My Guide donates approximately two-three hours each week to assist and support a person in a safe manner as they try to achieve their mobility goals. These goals could be as simple as wanting to go to a coffee shop once a week to build up confidence of being out and about or as detailed as needing to get more familiar with a walking route to a train station to become more independent with travel.

The length of a My Guide partnership is flexible based on the goals and needs of the service user. Each partnership is unique, with some lasting a couple of months, while others are on a more longer term basis.

Volunteers in this role will need to attend training with the Guide Dogs team to be fully able to carry out this role. The training consists of 1 day of sighted guiding and 1 day of safeguarding training.

Travel expenses can be paid for this training.

Additionally a DBS check is required for this role.
