“The Parks Trust is having to replace the boardwalk near the Grand Union Canal at Willen Park. In advance of this work a lot of the vegetation has had to be cut back before the bird nesting season. Some of the willow trees have been pollarded and others coppiced – both traditional forms of managing willows that prevent them from becoming too large and branches breaking off – they will regrow surprisingly quickly.

In collaboration with GLPC and Linda Johns, who created Arachne Weaves for the Gyosei Art Trail, great care has been taken to align the new two metre wide boardwalk so that it presents a good view of the artwork, which is revealed as you walk towards to the setting high in the trees, whilst also taking out some of the tight bends on the boardwalk and avoiding some of the problems of the boardwalk being under the tree canopy.

The work will be undertaken in late April/May. While it is being undertaken walkers and cyclists will need to cross over the canal and use the path on the Downhead Park side of the canal. The work will cost around £20,000 and is being entirely funded by The Parks Trust, the self-financing charity that manages and maintains over 5,000 acres of the parks, woodlands and lakes across Milton Keynes.”
