People of Milton Keynes helped George to recycle over 300,000 TDISCS and raised over £5,000 for Charity in less than three years. The following is George’s press release which is informative and entertaining!

“September 2016: Bunting and bubbly were out in force this week when Prince Harry dropped in on Downs Barnes resident George Thomson to help celebrate him raising over £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by recycling Tassimo coffee TDISCS.

“Unfortunately the real prince couldn’t make it so we had to make do with his flatmate” quipped George Thomson who set up and administrates the recycling fundraising collections as part of the TerraCycle scheme. George launched Tassimo Recycling MK four years ago by becoming one of TerraCycle’s first UK public drop off locations for the Tassimo Recycling Programme®. Via the scheme people in Milton Keynes can recycle Tassimo TDISCS and outer flow wraps which would otherwise go to landfill as the local council simply don’t have the infrastructure to recycle mixed plastics.

Growing numbers of MK residents now dispose of their Tassimo TDISCS and outer flow wrap packaging in George’s affectionately named recycling bin Ruby Redbin at 25 Cantle Avenue, Downs Barn MK14 7RJ. In just four years an astounding 353,920 pieces of waste weighing over five tonnes have been saved from local landfill and sent into TerraCycle to be recycled into a variety of generic plastic products. The recycling efforts have also raised over £5,000 for George Thomson’s chosen charity MacMillan Cancer Support.
George Thomson commented: “I am very grateful to everyone in Milton Keynes who has played a part in making this possible. It’s not just about Tassimo TDISCS and outer flow wrap packaging though as due to the success of the recycling we have also joined a number of TerraCycle’s other recycling programmes. So you can now also drop off any brand of biscuit wrappers, instant coffee packaging refill packs, plastic coffee jar lids, trigger heads and flip top caps from home cleaning products, plastic air fresheners and flexible home cleaning wipes packs back to Ruby Redbin at 25 Cantle Avenue, Downs Barn MK14 7RJ.

“Most fundraising relies on cash donations, but all I need is these items of household waste which would otherwise up in local landfill so please help us to recycle them and tell your friends and family to do the same.
